This month’s service honours St David, patron saint of Wales, whose feast day was celebrated on March 1st. Music will include Welsh-born Tudor composer Thomas Tomkins’ Preces & Responses and his anthem Almighty and everlasting God which hatest nothing, along with a setting of the Magnificat & Nunc dimittis by 20th-century Welsh composer William Mathias. Favourite Welsh hymns Blaenwern and Cwm Rhondda will be adorned with exceedingly tasteful descants.

Evensong, a fusion of the monastic prayer offices Vespers and Compline, is one of the jewels of the Anglican tradition. St Stephen’s Choir of Men & Boys, under the direction of Adric, presents Choral Evensong on the First Sunday of every month. The service begins at 6.00 PM and generally lasts between 35 and 45 minutes.

Visitors from all faith traditions are always heartily welcomed to join us in prayer, and all are invited to stay for a light reception directly following the service.

Admission is always free of charge; freewill offerings are gratefully accepted in aid of the choir’s charity, Dr Bob’s Place, a hospice for children.
